What is a cargo storage container?

A cargo storage container, as the name suggests, is a type of large steel structure that is most commonly used as a containment unit for cargo shipping around the world. These types of storage containers come in a variety of sizes and can be used for a number of different purposes.

While it is true that cargo containers are most often used for shipping purposes. Due to their weather resistant nature and extremely dense steel casings, they also provide a perfect solution for people with fixed (or semi-fixed) location storage needs. As a result, builders often use them to protect their tools on job sites, as well as offer them as rental options at storage management facilities across the country.

Another fairly common use for cargo storage container units is to provide temporary work space, which typically takes the form of cabins and offices. This is achievable because containers can be retrofitted to have smaller doors, windows, and electrical outlet accessories. These units are stronger than trailers and cost considerably less money to buy, rent, and maintain. Which makes them an ideal solution for companies that need a durable, non-permanent exterior structure.

Steel cargo containers are available in various sizes, but most often come in 10-, 20-, and 40-foot models. Standard containers are 7 feet wide and 7 feet tall, so when referring to the size of any specific unit, what is actually being referred to is the length. Almost all cargo containers will begin life as shipping units, but the 10-foot and 20-foot varieties are the ones that often make multiple trips, while the 40-foot ones are used more as storage and office facilities.

The frames from which cargo storage container units are built can be extremely versatile. Not only is it possible to include space for electronics and windows (in the case of office use), but these types of containers can also be equipped with temperature controls, as well as a range of options in terms of inputs for the unit. Cargo doors (a set of swing doors secured with a bolt) are the accepted standard, although roll-up doors are preferred for semi-fixed storage facilities, while access doors are the type normally fitted for units used as workspaces.

Cargo storage containers are available to rent or buy. Be careful though, only the big shipping companies buy brand new storage containers. There are always plenty of cheap, fully refurbished, second-hand models available on the market for commercial use, while people with personal storage needs often prefer to stick with rentals.
