Top 10 NHL Players

I decided to make a list of the current top 10 players in the NHL. So I’ll number them from 10 to 1 with a little description of why I think they deserve to be in the top 10.

10. Zach Parise, had his best year in points last year with over 50 goals and 96 points. He also showed his ability to play on the big stage when he was one of the top performers for Team USA at the 2010 Winter Olympics. He scored the game-tying goal with less than 30 seconds to tie Team Canada in the gold medal game.

9. Anze Kopitar, he’s kind of a great unknown player. He ranks 14th in the league in points as he leads the Los Angles Kings back to the playoffs for the first time in a long time. His great scoring ability and his leadership make hockey vibrate again in Los Angeles.

8. Henrik Sedin, currently the NHL’s leader in points, and the first player to reach 100 points this year. He has amazing chemistry with his twin brother Daniel and they have the Vancouver Canucks hot and ready to fight for the Stanley Cup. He combines great playmaking ability with a beautiful touch on goal to be a very dangerous player.

7. Evegeni Malkin, in his young career already has a Stanley Cup, a Conn Smyth and an Art Ross Trophy. All three awards came last year. While he was dominating the NHL while helping the Penguins to the championship. He has a remarkable shot, great hands and fantastic passing ability. He also has a large size that makes him very, very difficult to defend.

6. Henrik Zetterburg, has won a couple of Stanley Cups and is one of the best two forwards in the league. He not only can shine on the offensive end, he is a monster defensively. He does a fantastic job of stopping the best forwards on the other teams, as well as being a dangerous threat offensively.

5. Marian Hossa, she’s one of the best sharpshooters in the league, but she’s not just one-dimensional. She has blazing speed with good size and hands. She works extremely hard and is a game changer. This kid can play full throttle.

4. Patrick Kane, a new young superstar who is quickly making a name for himself. He runs the Chicago Blackhawks alongside Hossa. They have the Hawks second in the west and one of the top contenders for the cup. Kane proved his worth when he dominated for the USA at the Olympics. His silky smooth hands and deadly wrist strike make this crafty young player a sensation.

3. Ryan Miller, the only goalie to make the list, so that should tell you enough. At the Olympics he was a superstar, winning the MVP of the tournament. He proved that he could only win games by playing the most important position in hockey. Not to mention, goalkeepers are judged by his performance in big games, and he showed that he came to play.

2. Alexander Ovechkin, the world’s deadliest sniper. Ovechkin can score at full speed. He has led the Washington Capitals to first place in the East and perhaps the top contender for the cup. He not only has the best shot in the league and is one of the faces of the NHL, this guy plays hard. He’s always in the league leaders in hits and when he hits you, he goes for a knockout punch. He could very well be the most exciting player to watch with goal scoring, speed and big hits.

1. Sidney Crosby, the face of the NHL and a man, has lived up to the hype. He has scoring and MVP titles along with his Stanley Cup and gold medal from him. He scored the game-winning goal in overtime at the Olympics and was the youngest captain to win a Stanley Cup. Sid has saved the NHL and the Penguins and is the most recognizable name in hockey. He is at the top of the league in head to head and penalties going 8 out of 10 on the season. He plays excellent defense, is perhaps the best passer in the league, and currently leads the NHL with 47 goals. This guy is a pro in every phase of the word. He is a leader and a winner and the best player in the league.
