High-tech rear view mirror video cameras need a magnification zoom function

We’ve all been fooled by a car rear view mirror before as to the distance from another object. Sometimes things seem closer, sometimes further away, based on the rear view mirror. Many car mirrors even have an annotation, you may have seen it; “objects seem closer than they actually are”, and perhaps this helps clarify my point here. Okay, let’s talk about all this.

You see, it would be nice not to have to look at super small objects in a rear view mirror as if they were on your iPhone. Is there any way to fix this problem? Sure, one way is to use HD video cameras and larger screens for our cars. This could really help with high-performance cars or delivery vehicles that pull back a lot.

Now there was recently an interesting article on the GizMag Tech website titled; “Infiniti EMERG-E Demonstrator Makes World Debut”, released on July 3, 2012 and one of the features of this attractive and stylish Infinity sports car is a high-tech rearview mirror, so there is no additional parasite to the rear view mirrors sticking out of the side of the car, more like a stubble of a mirror with a little video camera inside, very good, and it looks totally cool.

Now, I would like to make a suggestion to these engineers, because they may not think like us intense drivers that we will use the car. You see, owners and drivers will require looks, but we demand absolute performance, and we also want bells and whistles to serve our will. You know, as a drink holder that attaches to our drinks and holds them while you do a 3G lean turn, or when you head to 60 mph from zero in 2.6 seconds. Who needs their drink all over the car or on the dash in a peak braking event?

Next, if a high-performance driver is really going to use this because he also needs to know what’s behind him, like how far back the last one passed is, or if there are any cars with light bars on top, or cyclists with police equipment on board. Having an HD video camera should probably be a standard feature on all such vehicles, but also on delivery vehicles, at least for safety. In fact, I hope you will please consider all of this and think about it. Let me know if you have any new groundbreaking ideas along this line of thought.
