Alex Jeffreys Coaching Program – Forward to the Basics

I was recently one of 500 people lucky enough to become a member of the Alex Jeffreys coaching program. In fact, we call ourselves “The Lucky 500”. Alex Jeffreys is a protégé of Mike Filsaime and after starting an increasingly successful online business, he is now under the tutelage of business coach Rich Schefren. Alex made more than $ 500,000 last year and is aiming for a million dollars for 2009.

I have no doubt in my mind that he will reach and most likely exceed his goal. While the coaching program is not face-to-face, it is conducted in the style of a webinar, with each coaching module ending in a marathon question-and-answer session. I don’t know where Alex gets all his energy from. We had a brainstorming session a couple of weeks ago that lasted 7 hours. His dedication to his students is only underscored by his obvious passion for internet marketing.

The first training module in Alex Jeffreys’ training program was called “Forward to Basics” instead of Going Back to Basics. Alex likes to turn everything positive. Going back should not be mentioned, only moving forward. That is why he is always talking about failing forward, which refers to the positive lesson that is learned each time you do not achieve your goal. He also specifically pointed out that we are not talking about the basics of internet marketing, we are talking about the basics of business. Marketing is simply a function of your business.

There were two main areas of discussion during “Back to Basics.”

The first was on how you need to change the way you think about building an online business to provide value. Alex models his business around the saying “Don’t chase the money … Let the money chase me.” He talked a lot about positioning himself and adding value. He also gave us this little gold nugget:

“The fastest way to get people to follow you, to be willing to pay you, is to provide free content and then market that free content.”

Alex has built a business that generates more than $ 20,000 a month using this strategy. He went on to talk about how it is necessary to start small and progress, but the most important thing is to start. You will never achieve anything if you don’t act and fail.

The second was about planning and goal setting. This part of the module had an immediate impact on my business and I see why Alex made it part of the first lesson. Organization and planning have easily doubled my productivity. Turning off distractions like cell phones, email, and chat programs will help you stay on track.

The first thing Alex told us to do was make a one-year plan in which we set goals. Not only business goals, but also personal ones. Next, take your one-year plan and break it down into a 90-day plan, then a monthly plan, and finally a weekly plan. He made some daily schedules for us and then presented us with the “Daily Worksheet”.

The daily tasks sheet should be used in conjunction with your To Do List. You keep a log of everything you do and then compare it at the end of the day with what you were supposed to do. For me, this has been a great way to identify the things that are keeping me from being productive. By identifying them I can avoid them and so far it has worked wonders.

Having a plan has also been helpful. Alex gave us a link to choose a mind mapping software that we can use for free. Mind maps are a great tool that allows you to visualize your game plan and see all the steps necessary for you to achieve your goal.

It was a lot to take in the 3 hours we spent in the webinar, but Alex stayed another 3 hours answering questions and getting to know the students during the interactive tours. I am looking forward to the next Alex Jeffreys coaching session and in the meantime I will be implementing everything he teaches me.
