Xactimate Training: How to Backup Your Work

When working in Xactimate, it is important to remember to back up your data occasionally to an external source. Although you can configure the software to automatically save your projects when you are working on them, things can go wrong. Having copies of your projects saved to an external source can save a lot of time and headaches when something goes wrong, such as a frozen computer or a hard drive crash.

There are several ways to back up your projects. One way to accomplish this task is to export your project data to an external source, such as a flash drive or portable hard drive. You can do it quickly and efficiently from the projects window. It will highlight all the projects and then perform a data transfer operation to the location of your choice.

A second way to make a backup is to send your projects to the Xactware servers. To do this, select the projects you want to transfer and then select the data transfer. Once on the data transfer screen, select the Xactware button, then select send, then give your own Xactnet address. After giving it your Xactnet address, all you have to do is press ok. The software will then push the projects you selected to Xactware’s servers, essentially creating a backup copy of your project (s).

These two ways of backing up your projects will prevent you from losing all your important data. It will also save you from having to spend hours with technical support trying to get your files back. If your software or hardware stops working, all you have to do is reload the software, download your price lists again, import your claims, and you’re back in business. So remember to back up your data every 10-15 minutes while you make an estimate. You will be glad you did.
