Relationship Advice: Dealing With The Challenge Of Wife Earning More Money Than Husband

A recent article on Fox News informed us of the growing trend among newlywed young couples for the wife to earn more money than the husband.

My first thought was “And how is this a problem, and for whom?”

Apparently, it is a big problem for some.

Are you familiar with the old 60’s TV sitcom “Bewitched” starring Elizabeth Montgomery? He still appears from time to time in Nick at Nite and was made into a movie a few years ago.

If you’re unfamiliar with the plot, here it is: Darren and Samantha Stevens are a typical 1960s couple, with Darren as the breadwinner architect husband and Samantha as the beautiful housewife. The only downside is that Samantha has this unique ability to wiggle her nose and make anything happen and / or appear out of nowhere and Darren tries to get her to stop using her abilities and be “normal”.

Did you get that last line? Here’s a guy who has a wife who could get them anything they wanted and he was trying to make her stop!

Don’t be a Darren Stevens!

Even as a little kid in the 60s, I thought Darren Stevens was a complete jerk!

So my suggestion on how to handle the situation when the wife is making more money than the husband is simply this:

Celebrate and enjoy it!

If you are a man and you are intimidated by the fact that your wife makes more money than you, get over it! Take away your own ego and celebrate the gifts of your wife and him present of your wife.
