Product Review: The New Bledsoe Extender Plus Post-Operative Knee Brace

It’s comforting to know that a manufacturer listens to its doctors and patients who use its devices. When it comes to the new Bledsoe Extender Plus, this product is the culmination of patient use, physician requirements, and trial and error.

The number one complaint among patients who wear postoperative knee braces is a lack of fit and fit. Complaint # 2 is ease of use. The Bledsoe Extender Plus addresses both of these issues and more.

The Extender Plus offers an excellent alternative to cumbersome knee immobilizers. The clamp offers full lockdown, limited or full motion control. It is ideal immediately after surgery, during rehabilitation or injury. It is also used for patients with multiple sclerosis, post-polio, and other neuromuscular disorders that require constant daily adjustments in the range of motion of the knee.

Its open and cool design prevents the accumulation of heat and sweat, providing better patient hygiene. Its strapping design prevents strut piston and improves strut suspension.

Bledsoe uses a breathable unidirectional stretch foam, compared to many companies that use neoprene foam wraps. Bledsoe was one of the first companies to create a quick-release buckle, so patients did not have to adjust the brace straps every time they put it on. Once the straps are adjusted to fit the patient, all the patient has to do is click a button and the buckle is released, saving time and effort.

The large ball hinge is a welcome relief for the elderly and patients with finger arthritis. Push button adjustments are easy to maneuver and flexion and extension numbers are clearly visible on the outside of the hinge.

The lock button is large and bright red for easy identification. Simply press the button to lock the clamp to full extension. The range of motion control is in 10 degree increments, compared to other brands that increase in 15 degree levels.

The clamp is universally sized, due to its telescopic side bars. This ensures the proper length for a more personalized fit for each patient. The clamp stretches from 22 “to 34”. The corset fits either left or right legs, making it more attractive to doctors and hospitals as it reduces inventory requirements.

An ankle and foot extension can be placed on the lower sides of the Extender Plus, for a complete leg / ankle / foot orthosis.

Adjustability, ease of use, comfort, economical design and superior are just a few of the words that describe this popular and durable post-operative knee brace.

Please consult with your treating physician or surgeon to determine if Bledsoe Extender Plus is the correct brace for your condition.
