Games to improve your memory

Having a bad memory is a very embarrassing and often annoying affliction. People think you’re rude or lazy, but in reality you just can’t remember the conversation you had with them or the topic you talked about. Forgetting someone’s birthday or picking up a gift is bad enough once, but it can be depression if you’re the person who does it every year. If you have a terrible memory, then you don’t need to worry because here are some great memory games that will help you improve your memory and get more out of life.

– Change it

Human memory is an amazing thing. We now know that memories are not stored in just one part of the brain, but everywhere, including the parts that retain and classify sights, smells, and sounds. Use this to your advantage to change the way you try to remember something. If you have to remember to pick up a birthday present for your mom on the way home from work, start humming the “happy birthday to you” tune as you write a note. Put the note somewhere you’ll see it (like on your desk at work), but every time you see it, hum the tune. By combining the melody and the note you will more easily remember what you have to do.

-Names

Meeting someone new can scare people with poor memories. The best way to help you remember the name is to pay close attention when you meet them. Try to eliminate distractions and even ask the person making the introductions to slow down so you have time to remember everyone’s name. Repeating it will also help you because you are physically saying it out loud. It may be awkward at first to respond with “nice to meet you…” each time, but when you remember his name the next time you see him, you won’t be disappointed.

– Grouping

Grouping things together makes it much easier for the brain to sort things out. As mentioned above, the brain stores memories in many different parts of the brain, so the more you order things, the easier it will be. Group the simple tasks so that they become a pair; for example, leaving the office and going to the dry cleaners. Even when you don’t have to pick up anything or put anything down, walk past it to etch the association into your brain. So when you have to go there, you won’t forget it.

Good luck and remember these games!
