Free Classic Movies: Cause for Alarm, Fright in the Night, and White Gorilla

Cause for Alarm (1951)

Ellen Jones (Loretta Young), a beautiful nurse, is married to an Army Air Force pilot, George Jones (played by Barry Sullivan). Ellen’s husband develops a serious mental and physical illness. As a faithful wife, she dutifully cares for her bedridden husband. Dr. Grahame (played by Bruce Cowling), a friend of theirs, is her attending physician. Probably due to a side effect of his medication, George develops paranoid fantasies about his wife and begins to suspect that his wife is having a secret affair with Dr. Grahame. He then sends a letter to the Los Angeles district attorney saying that his wife and his doctor are trying to kill him. Later, George dies of a heart attack while trying to kill his wife. Now, suddenly, Ellen finds herself in real trouble. If she can’t persuade the postman to return the letter, she and the doctor will be blamed for the death of her husband.

The main actors are Barry Sullivan, Brad Morrow, Bruce Cowling, Loretta Young and Margalo Gillmore. This film is also known as “Grund zur Aufregung”.

Fear in the Night (1947)

A young man (DeForrest Kelley) dreams that he murders someone during a robbery. When he wakes up he finds some foreign objects in his pockets and blood on his wrist. In fact, he was hypnotized into participating in the robbery. The nightmare seems so real that he, concerned, informs his brother-in-law, a police lieutenant (Paul Kelly), about the incident. Obviously the police lieutenant doesn’t take it seriously. But when they end up sheltering from the rain in a mysterious abandoned house, they begin to discover the truth.

Main cast of the film: Ann Doran, Charles Victor, DeForest Kelley, Kay Scott and Paul Kelly. This movie is also known as “And So Scared To Death”.

The White Gorilla (1945)

Bennett and his associates are captured by natives. They are then rescued by a jungle boy. Later they find a blind father living with his beautiful daughter in a small shack. Meanwhile, we see several fights between the black gorillas and the White Gorilla. At some point, the white gorilla fights against the black gorilla king and tries to take the beautiful girl away.

The main cast of the film includes Budd Buster, Francis Ford, George J. Lewis, Lorraine Miller, and Ray Corrigan. This movie is also known as “The White Gorilla”.
