Checklist: Things to Remember When Shopping for Protein Supplements

Most of us who train to keep our bodies in shape use protein supplements. However, it is often confusing to decide which brand is the best or which Supplement is the best. We often search for new supplements that we believe will completely transform our bodies. Here is a checklist of things to remember when you want to buy your Supplement. If you remember these guidelines, you will never go wrong with the Protein Supplement you buy and you will always end up with a supplement that offers good value for the money you spend. The following are the criteria:-

Protein to Carbohydrate Ratio:
A good quality, pure Protein Supplement will always have Carbs to Proteins in a 1:5 ratio. This means that for every gram of Carbohydrates, there must be 5 grams of Protein. A good quality Protein Supplement will never have more than 4 grams of Carbohydrates. Always remember to check the Total Carbohydrates, if they are more than 4 grams, think twice before buying that supplement.

Whey protein isolate plus whey protein concentrate:
Always check the main sources of your protein supplements. The main used font is written first followed by the least used font. Always select a protein supplement that has whey protein isolate as the primary source, followed by whey protein concentrate. This is because the isolated form of protein is the purest form in which the protein is up to 90% pure. The advantage of having this with the concentrated form of protein is that something called subfractions in your protein are destroyed in the isolated form but remain in the concentrated form. These subfractions are important from the point of view of immunity. They maintain your immunity after an intense training session. So make sure your supplement is a derivative of whey protein isolate followed by whey protein concentrate.

Filtration method:
There are 2 methods used for filtration. They are the Micro-Filtration method and the Ionic Exchange method. Always make sure your protein supplement is micro-filtered and free of ion exchange. When your supplement is filtered using the ion exchange method, the natural protein structure is destroyed and the subfractions are destroyed as well. However, the microfiltration method preserves both the natural structure of the protein and its subfractions. If both methods are used, then in an ideal scenario microfiltration should be followed by ion exchange.

These are some of the factors that you should consider before buying your Protein Supplement so as not to end up with a second grade product or a low quality supplement. If you look carefully at the packaging of your supplement, you will see all the details mentioned above on the packaging. In case you do not find them in the container, you can visit the company’s website and inquire about the details mentioned above.
