Are you working with the wrong clients?

Best indicator: It’s Monday morning around 10am. How you feel? Are you excited for the week ahead or do you find yourself looking at the clock?

What does your caseload look like? Do you expect to work with every single client in your workload? Do you wake up really excited about your day, or do you seriously consider “calling in sick”?

These are some of the signs that you are working with the wrong clients. It’s not that they’re wrong or you’re wrong, the fit is wrong. There is a great professional help out there somewhere for them and you know what? There are absolutely amazing clients who are perfect for your business and they are waiting for you to open the door for them.

Other signs you’re on the wrong track: You’re not getting the best price for what you do, you’re regularly distracted during the workday, or you’re seriously considering throwing in the towel.

And the saddest thing: your dream job has turned into a nightmare.

Believe it or not, there are people who love their jobs. Your clients are making incredible progress. They put smiley faces on your checks and send thank you cards with your pay.

If you want to stop feeling like all your blood has been replaced by skim milk around 4:00 on Wednesday, it’s time to change the way you act.

When you limit your practice to working with clients you love, the first thing you notice is what isn’t there anymore. Suddenly, people aren’t late for (or late for) appointments. They are not showing up. They are not “yes, but…ing” you. You know what I’m talking about!

Notice that you are not stressed. You are not exhausted. You’re not wondering how you ended up in this dilemma of not having enough clients or the wrong clients or feeling like “this isn’t what I signed up for!”

Then you realize the good things. Clients who don’t mind paying you what your services are worth…on time! You find that when you ask them to write something good for your website, they send it to you quickly and are happy to recommend you to others.

And your clients are impressing you with their accomplishments. You realize that you are quite constantly impressed.

When you only work with the clients you love, you have a completely different energy. Have you ever noticed that when you do what you love to do, work goes faster? It’s more fun and you’re more innovative and really brilliant. That’s what happens when you work with clients you love. Until you’ve experienced it, you can’t know how great it is!

It may take some time to get out of the fear mindset of weeding out clients who aren’t right for you, but once you do, you’ll see your business and your life drastically change for the better.
