Minecraft – Introduction to Redstone

If you have spent any time within the world of Minecraft, you will be familiar with the common mineral, redstone. Redstone is the “wiring” in Minecraft used to connect one gadget to another, your in-game power source.

How did you get it? Of course of course! You can mine redstone ore underground as with most materials in Minecraft. That mineral will turn into red stone when broken with an iron pickaxe or better. However, you can also acquire it by killing a witch, looting a jungle temple, or trading with a villager.

Once you have your red stone in hand, you are ready to experiment with its possibilities. At the most basic level of the game, if you need some portable light within the game, all you need is red stone and a stick to craft a red stone torch. Do you want to provide constant light to your Minecraft house? Combine red stone and glow stone to make a lamp, keeping darkness at bay … and all the creatures that accompany it.

Redstone is used to power various types of devices. You will want to be familiar with several fundamental elements. In the trigger category you will find buttons and levers, as well as pressure plates. The buttons send out a redstone signal when pressed, while the levers work more like light switches. A pressure plate on each side of a door can allow it to open as you enter and then close behind you, triggered by your weight as you go up and down again.

There are also two types of pistons in the Minecraft world: regular and sticky. Normal pistons push a block forward one step and then leave it there, while sticky pistons stick to the block and can therefore push or pull it. You can use them to make doors, elevators, secret entrances, etc.

Repeaters, as you can guess, repeat the redstone signal – one placed after the first fifteen redstone blocks will extend the range of your signal by another fifteen blocks.

So what can you do with all these buttons, levers, pressure plates, pistons, and repeaters? The sky is literally the limit. You can decide to make piston controlled waterfalls, secret hatches, music machines, clocks, and even roller coasters. If you want to get really fancy, try assembling a number of gadgets and gadgets on a Rube Goldberg machine. Feeling lazy? Redstone can also turn on automatic agricultural and mining machines.

Redstone can also improve potion brewing. The combination of redstone powder and a bottle of water will give you the mundane potion, while adding the powder to other potions (for example, potion of night vision, water breath, or invisibility) will increase its duration.

As you can see, redstone will provide the power source for many of your Minecraft creations and adventures. Don’t be afraid to use your imagination!
