LeapFrog DIDJ gaming system

Unlike the traditional learning methods that were popular when I was a student, today’s children seem to learn best when learning can be combined with play. LeapFrog’s DIDJ is a new addition to a long line of products that successfully combine learning and play.

The LeapFrog DIDJ gaming system comes to us from the same people who gave us the LeapPad and Leapster products. Unlike those products, LeapFrog DIDJ is designed for an age group older than 6-10 years. The DIDJ is basically a portable gaming device, roughly the size of a Sony PSP (Play Station Plus system). One of the complaints about older products was the quality of the graphic display. LeapFrog seems to have fixed that problem with the DIDJ. The screen rivals that of your television.

Unlike many of the gaming devices, the DIDJ allows a parental interface via a USB connection to a PC. The USB connection allows parents to see how much time they spent at the DIDJ playing games that have educational content, as well as the child’s progress. Parents can also use this feature to load math problems and spell words that their child is currently learning in school. Now your child will not argue with you when you suggest that he study.

Progress in each of the games requires your student to answer specific math, vocabulary, or spelling questions. So instead of blowing up a fictional monster, your child is actually learning. What a good idea! Correct answers also allow the child to accumulate points that can be traded to allow for character customization in games.

Using popular characters like Hannah Montana to help make learning fun, LeapFrog offers a wide variety of game cartridges that can be added to the DIDJ. Cartridges that resemble a flash card disk are sold separately for $ 29.99.

Your kids should have no problem operating the DIDJ. The face has several user input buttons, a D pad on the left side that controls movement, and A and B input buttons on the right side. The display volume and intensity knobs are located on the side of the DIDJ.

Running on 4 standard AA batteries, the DIDJ is a great item for those road trips. The DIDJ also has a headphone jack, so your child can use the DIDJ without involving the whole family. There is also the option of purchasing a docking station / charger for use with rechargeable batteries.

Here’s a product your kids will want to use, because it’s fun, and at the same time, they can improve their minds. Not a bad deal for the price. No one in your home will ever complain about homework again with the LeapFrog DIDJ gaming system.
