GPS tracking of the future

For most people, Global Positioning System (GPS) devices are the norm today with tracking devices installed in cars, buses they take, and even giving you the ability to track your children, wife and elderly mother-in-law. People can use GPS trackers to monitor their dogs, packages, and valuables, but what is the next generation of GPS trackers and devices that we can enrich our lives with?

GPS trackers in cars

The car is likely to see even more GPS tracking-related accessories installed, with greater clarity from online maps and display screens broadcasting location information on the windshields and rear view mirrors. Motorcyclists are also likely to benefit from GPS warning technology with systems being developed along the lines of fighter pilots’ helmets that will provide motorcyclists with additional information about the road ahead.

Satellite navigation systems are also poised to see greater benefits from the widespread use of GPS with more devices offering real-time traffic information over the road and offering alternative routes to avoid chaos. GPS-enabled tour guides are set up to make traveling more interesting with live commentary as you drive. The GPS tracker inside the unit pinpoints your location and broadcasts details of local landmarks, museums, galleries, and points of interest, adding extra fun to vacation trips.

GPS clothing

GPS also seems ready to find its way into our clothing with connectable jackets, boots, and goggles. In this way, tourists and outdoor enthusiasts no longer need cumbersome GPS tracking devices, but simply have to put on their coat or shoes to identify their location while traveling.

Digital and recording cameras are also coming into action and now there are some that can include details on where, when and location your photos were taken. You no longer have to worry about where you took a particular photo on your last vacation trip, as the camera stores all the data for you.

GPS health

With an increasingly aging population in the Western world, there will be more older people suffering from debilitating diseases like Alzheimer’s. More and more watches and trackers are able to keep confused and lost seniors informed of their whereabouts. While systems that act as a virtual guide dog for the blind and visually impaired are also being launched.

At present, human imagination seems to be the only limitation to the uses to which GPS trackers can be put. They are finding their way into all aspects of our daily lives, making them easier and more informed.
